Abstractions
This series has a name. I just don't know what it is yet.
I need to figure out a better way to photograph stuff that is varnished to a high gloss finish. If you have any tips, let me know.
Tonight I am going to work on a last painting for 2010. The only thing I know for sure is that it will involve some funky weird colors. And my creativity will be powered by cava. What could be better.

Sneak Peek
I wanted to post pictures of my paintings in a somewhat chronological order, but I don't have any decent pictures of anything right now. Except this one, that I painted as a Christmas present for Derek. It's unframed so it was easy to slap it in my scanner. It doesn't have a title yet. And it looks much better in person - the metallic colors don't scan well. Painting on paper is a new adventure for me. I have been a canvas girl to date, but I made Christmas cards this year and was fascinated by the way the paint looked on paper. It was like making my own marbled paper. So I have headed in a new direction and have no idea where I will end up. Must have been a good decision, since Derek sold four of these pieces Christmas week. What a lovely gift THAT was!
My new art supplies got here today! If http://www.dickblick.com/ ever breaks up with me I will cry like a baby. Each of the three sketchbooks I ordered came shipped individually. In big boxes. Hmmm. And I apparently placed my order very late at night, with only one eye open, because I got some funky weird paint colors. This could be exciting ... or a tragic waste of funky weird paint.

Poodle-face
This is my baby girl. I call her poodle. Or poodle-face. Or puzza (if you know what that means you win a prize). Sometimes I call her nut bucket. Or monkey butt. Derek calls her pickle. Or picklino. Her dinosaur name is dorkasaurus. It's truly amazing that she knows her real name is Roxie. What does this have to do with painting? Nothing. But I love her. And so do you. That is all.

BANG!
I wanted to start my blog with a bang. So there you go. BANG! My only real purpose here is to keep a record of my artistic endeavors. People ask if I am an artist and my default answer is "no." But that isn't true. I AM an artist, and although at times I think I am the only one who loves what I paint, I still paint. It excites me, especially since I'm never sure how each piece is going to turn out. And since I have had my pieces hanging in a gallery for about two years, and they have sold to an international audience, I guess I have to stop using my default answer. (Full disclosure, I OWN the gallery, but still....)
I ordered a crap load of art supplies yesterday and I cannot wait until they get here. WOO HOO!
Third thought for the day: I am thoroughly anticipating the day I have a dedicated space for painting that does not double as my kitchen counter. Big things are coming. Soon.
